Visitando el Parque Nacional de las Islas Atlánticas
El Parque Nacional de las Islas Atlánticas está ubicado en la entrada de la ría de Vigo, a unas 3 millas de la costa. Se trata del decimotercer parque de España, declarado Parque Natural en el año 1980 y también es una zona de protección especial para las aves.
En el año 2002 fue declarado Parque Nacional, sin embargo, meses después, como consecuencia del naufragio del petrolero Prestige, la marea negra llegó a sus costas, salvo a la de la isla de Cortegada.
El Parque Nacional Marítimo Terrestre de las Islas Atlánticas de Galicia está conformado por los archipiélagos de Cortegada, Sálvora, Ons y Cíes que constituyen un paisaje verde azulado característico de este lugar y; por el simple hecho de ser islas, están muy influenciadas y ligadas al mar.
El valor ecológico del medio marino de este parque es invaluable y entre sus aguas se conservan los ejemplares más representativos de ecosistemas marinos atlánticos. Entre la diversidad de especies de flora y fauna, predominan los bosques de las pardas , arrecifes, lagunas y bancos de arena.
En la isla de Cíes abundan las plantaciones de eucaliptos, pinos y acacias las cuales han logrado desplazar en algunas zonas a la vegetación potencial Gracias a su asentamiento en un entorno completamente ligado al mar, el Parque Nacional Marítimo-Terrestre de las Islas Atlánticas de Galicia se encuentra ubicado en un entorno natural ligado al mar, por lo que presenta una extraña biodiversidad con varios ecosistemas.
Para visitar el parque se debe realizar una reserva con anticipación, dado que se limitan los visitantes diarios a 2200 personas y pueden pernoctar 800 personas diariamente en este archipiélago.
