Visitando el Parque Nacional Aigüestortes i Estany de Sant Maurici
Este parque está ubicado en el corazón del Pirineo Oriental y se diferencia del resto de los otros parques de alta montaña ya que se erige sobre un sustrato granítico, lo que le ha permitido conservar las formas erosionadas de los glaciares. Este macizo se encuentra alrededor de dos valles asimétricos, el de Sant Nicolau y el de El Escrita, por lo que corren los ríos bajo el mismo nombre.
La cumbre más elevada de este macizo es el Pic de Peguera, que cuenta con unos 2.982 metros, sin embargo las cumbres más populares son los Encantats, dos impresionantes moles de granito que cuentan con unos 1.747 metros de altura.
El parque cuenta con tres tipos de vegetaciones, las cuales se van modificando a medida que aumenta la altura, por lo que predomina la vegetación de montaña con masas de pino albar y bosques caducifolios, luego de los 1.700 a los 2300 metros, predominan los bosques de abeto y pino negro, y; finalmente, desde los 2300 m la vegetación permanece cubierta casi todo el año, predominando algunas praderías.
Con respecto a la fauna que predomina en el parque Aigüestortes, está compuesta fundamentalmente por especies típicas de alta montaña, donde abundan en su mayoría aves como azor, el águila real lechuza de Tengmalm, perdiz nival, picapinos, urogallo, reyezuelo sencillo, entre otras especies. Entre los mamíferos, predominan los jabalíes, los gatos monteses , liebres, lirones, lobos y desmán de los pirineos .Entre los anfibios y reptiles predominan la rana bermeja, vibora hocicuda y culebra lisa europea.
