El Parque Nacional Sierra está ubicado entre las provincias de Granada y Almería, en la comunidad de Andalucía . A diferencia de otras altitudes, su climatología ha permitido que crezcan un gran número de especies. En la alta montaña, se puede disfrutar por ejemplo de especies únicas como la violeta de Sierra Nevada o la estrella de las nieves. A esta altura, podemos contemplar preciosos valles de origen glaciar como el de Siete Lagunas. A media altitud, el paisaje está conformado por bosques donde predominan los arces, robles melojos, arces, castaños y cerezos silvestres. A medida que cambian las estaciones, la fisonomía de los bosques se va modificando, en el otoño predominan los colores ocres, mientras que en la primavera y el periodo estival renacen los brotes italianos de los verdes intensos. En sus pisos más bajos encontramos encinares como los Montenegro y el bosque de ribera que bordea el cauce de los ríos.
Gracias a su variedad vegetal y a su clima, el Parque Nacional Sierra posee una gran variedad de fauna. En la alta montaña los visitantes pueden contemplar el vuelo del acentor alpino, las chovas piquirrojas o los roqueros solitarios. En la masa boscosa conviven una gran comunidad de mamíferos entre los que se destacan jabalíes, zorros, el tejón o la jineta. Sin embargo, la especie más extendida por toda la cordillera es la cabra montés.
El Parque Nacional Sierra ha desarrollado una intensa actividad turística y recibe una gran cantidad de visitantes durante todo el año. Es un excelente lugar para pasar el período estival ya que los aficionados al esquí, el montañismo, la pesca o el senderismo encuentran aquí el lugar ideal para el ocio donde pueden disfrutar de sus vacaciones.
