Teatro Emerita Augusta de Mérida
Mérida, capital de Extremadura es una bella ciudad que impacta por su valor cultural y sus monumentos arqueológicos que datan de la época del Imperio Romano. Uno de los lugares más interesantes que puedes visitar si te apasiona la historia y la cultura es el Teatro de Emerita Augusta: Una maravillosa construcción milenaria que data del año 16 a.C. y cuya realización fue promovida por el cónsul romano Marco Agripa.
El diseño de este teatro es similar a la construcción arquitectónica de la mayoría de los teatros romanos, cuenta con un graderío semicircular que en su momento fue capaz de albergar a 5.800 personas y está dividido en tres alturas. En su parte más baja, en el centro, se encuentra la orchestra, de dimensión semicircular recubierta de mármol en su origen.
El elemento más destacado de este conjunto arquitectónico es el frente de la escena o el frons scaenae, recubierto de mármol, y en cuyos extremos se elevan unas impactantes columnas Corinthians de unos 30 m, cuyas basas y capiteles de mármol blanco contrastan con fustes de mármol azul .
Sobre cada una de estas columnas sus entablamentos decorados con estatuas de divinidades, personajes y dioses clásicos de la mitología romana como Proserpina, Ceres, Plutón y Júpiter son realmente impactantes. En las afueras del teatro podrás apreciar los vestigios de un jardín porticado, presidido por una cámara en consagrada, por aquel entonces, al culto imperial.
El Teatro Romano está ubicado en la calle José Ramón Mélida y en sus alrededores podrás visitar el Anfiteatro, el Foro romano, el Circo, la casa del Anfiteatro y el Templo de Diana.
A partir de del mes de junio y hasta septiembre, los horarios de visita son de 9.30 a 14 horas y por la tarde de 17 a 19 30 horas. La entrada general es asequible, sólo cuesta ocho euros y los niños no pagan entrada.
